It is believed that the dish was named after a famous Mongol warrior, Genghis Khan, and was a favorite of the Mughal emperor, Akbar. The dish is typically made by cooking boneless chicken pieces in a rich, aromatic gravy made from a blend of spices and yogurt.

Here's a recipe for Chicken Changezi that you can try:

Ingredients:

  • 500g boneless chicken
  • 2 cups yogurt
  • 1 cup cream
  • 2 onions, finely chopped
  • 4 tomatoes, finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp ginger paste
  • 1 tbsp garlic paste
  • 2 green chilies, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1 tsp cumin powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • 1/4 cup oil
  • Salt to taste

Instructions:

  1. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the yogurt, cream, ginger paste, garlic paste, red chili powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, and salt.
  2. Add the chicken pieces to the yogurt mixture, mix well, and marinate for at least 30 minutes.
  3. Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the onions and green chilies, and sauté until the onions are golden brown.
  4. Add the tomatoes and cook until they turn soft and mushy.
  5. Add the marinated chicken along with the marinade, and stir well.
  6. Cook the chicken until it's tender and the gravy thickens, stirring occasionally.
  7. Sprinkle garam masala over the chicken and mix well.
